Do you know why nuts are an indispensable food for vegans?

The vegan diet is becoming ever more popular, particularly amongst young people. What distinguishes the vegan diet is that the food consumed may come from plant sources. Meat, fish, eggs, milk products and honey have no place on the menu. For this reason a sufficient supply of certain critical nutrients is difficult, says the German Association for Nutrition (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Ernährung e. V.). Nuts are an indispensable food for vegans, because they provide a large number of different nutrients. Protein, fat and roughage in nuts provide energy and are more satisfying. Peanuts especially contain high-grade protein. In combination with other plant protein sources their biological value can also be increased and the body can convert the dietary protein into body protein better. Almonds are an excellent source of vitamin B2 and calcium. Brazil nuts are the plant food with the highest selenium content. Walnuts provide vital omega-3 fatty acid (alpha-linolenic acid), which helps maintain a normal level of blood cholesterol. Vegans should ensure that they are getting a really varied diet. Nuts are part of that diet!
