Did you know that almonds help in heartburn?

Heartburn develops if gastric acid flows back into the oesophagus, and the sphincter muscle between the stomach and the oesophagus does not function correctly. A burning sensation in the upper stomach region and the oesophagus is the result. This may be caused by medicines, diet, stress, alcohol consumption, being overweight or by pregnancy, as the enlarged uterus then exerts pressure on the stomach. An old household remedy to counteract heartburn consists in unprocessed almonds. Three to five almonds chewed thoroughly – before and after a meal – help to bind excess acid. Further heartburn-related dietary tips are: Opt for multiple, small meals and reduce – or, preferably, avoid – the consumption of fatty foods such as chips or sausages, as well as coffee, alcoholic beverages, sweets and citrus fruits.
